You Cricket Tragic writer Peter Langston has appeared on the local Prime TV News as he was one of the few who accurately predicted a 3-1 series win to England in the Ashes series just completed.

Not only were you correct, but they gave us a total bath, 3 - 1 flattered the Aussies. Rethinking and rebuilding in the key areas of top order and strike bowling is a must.
ReplyDeleteWell done in increasing the awareness of the tragics.
Pete,
ReplyDeleteThat’s a great interview.
Cricket Australia needs a man like you.
When they do their ‘review’ I will be very interested in what changes will occur.
Well done Lango! 'Rethinking the whole process' takes some understanding of what the 'process' is and how one 'thinks' though and I'm not convinced Hilditch is up to the task.
ReplyDeleteI still believe the playing unit needs to adopt brutal honesty in their appraisals of their own performances. While Aus was outplayed we did not do enough to fight which is evidenced by the amount of nicks to balls that could have been left. Of course consistent pressure brings about mistakes but Clarke, Ponting, Hughes and Smith gave their wickets far too often. On the bowling front our boys just couldn't build the pressure needed to induce a mistake. The English batsmen were far too disciplined to fall for cheap tricks.
Of interest is the tenure the main players in this summer's debacle have. Bowling and batting coaches (Cooley & Langer) and the Chairman of Hilditch & Co all have contracts ending at the conclusion of the World Cup.
ReplyDeleteI'd be averting my eyes to avoid the gaze of James Sutherland until then. The thinking may may well be from the Board that the timing will be right for change and no sackings would be necessary.
