Bangladesh Flogged By Pakistan

MOM: Younis Khan
Bangladesh were shredded by Pakistan at Chittagong, being beaten by an innings and plenty. It was a match that was over by tea on the first day when Bangladesh's first innings was over for just 135. In the two hours after tea, Pakistan had almost levelled their score and still had ten wickets to play with.

Younis Khan, who Test career has had lengthy chunks of absence wedged between brilliance, has been only steady since his second return a year ago, scoring his runs ponderously but scoring them never the less. He took full toll of a bowling line up which at best tried to contain but hardly looked likely to take wickets. It was his third time to 200 in 72 Tests, his highest being 313 against Sri Lanka at the start of 2009 but it was easily his fastest. Mohammad Hafeez and Asad Shafiq also made hundreds, Shafiq adding 259 with Younis for the 5th wicket.

Bangladesh improved in the second innings, mainly on the back of debutante Nazimuddin, who persisted from opening with a well constructed 78. Al Hasan and Rahim provided late middle order resistance but Pakistan's spinners were too much for all to handle, capturing 13 of the wickets to fall. Abdur Rehman was the best of them, finishing with match figures of 7-97.

The second Test starts in Dhaka on Saturday.
